BlackBerry hardware & software requirements
Wicked requires a minimum OS version of 4.6.x on your BlackBerry. It simply will not work on older OS versions. We support as many BlackBerry APIs as possible (especially for multimedia and graphics) that the new OS provides, so we are not going to support older versions.
In fact, we are aggressively involved in supporting the latest/greatest APIs in upcoming BlackBerry OSes.
Your blog server requirements
- You must have Wordpress 2.7.1 or higher installed. The software will not work with older versions of Wordpress, due to the XMLRPC API limitations that existed before 2.7.1.
- If you host your own Wordpress blog, then be sure to enable XMLRPC access to the blog, as described here.
- You must also have admin privileges on your blog server for the app to work.
- Also, please make sure that your user has write privileges on your blog’s wp-content folder, if you want to be able to upload pictures directly from your BlackBerry to your blog server.
Mobile operator & network requirements
You must have a data plan (BIS or BES) and/or Wi-Fi for Wicked to work. At the very least you must have a Wi-Fi connection for Wicked to work. Whenever possible, Wicked uses Wi-Fi instead of using your cellular connection (BIS-B), and does this transparently behind the scenes. So if you switch back and forth between cellular and Wi-Fi, Wicked will silently adapt to these changes, without interrupting your user experience.
HTTPS, Wi-Fi, and BIS-B: At ScreamingToaster, we take security, privacy, and encryption very seriously. All the network communications between our apps and our services use HTTPS with 256 bit keys. Wicked uses a Wi-Fi connection to connect to your blog, and if that’s not possible, it uses BIS-B (so you don’t get charged for data if you’re outside the US/Canada). Please consult with your mobile operator and be aware of the data consumption and billing implications of this before running Wicked.
